Trekking overview

We will give you a brief overview of the most popular trekkings below, and we will inform you about the character, duration, maximum height and level of difficulty of each trek .

Markha Tal

This is one of the most popular and beautiful treks, easily accessible from Leh. The effects of the collision of the earth plates of India with those of Eurasia are revealed in many places on this trek; this collision formed unique, bizarre rock formations in all imaginable shades of color. The area is also home to rare and endangered animals from the Himalayas, which you can see with a bit of luck. Since we will also pass several small villages, you also have the opportunity to observe the traditional way of life of the Ladakhis.

Tsomoriri trekking

The remote plateau of Changthang (= Nordland) extends from western Tibet to eastern Ladakh. This region, also known as the land of nomads, will let you have experiences that you will not forget until the end of your life. You will get in personal contact with the nomads, and you will surely be invited to a cup of butter tea in one of their black yak hair tents. The tents are located directly on the banks of the Tsomoriri, a huge oval-shaped lake, the colors of which, depending on the light, shine in all conceivable shades from turquoise to dark blue and which is surrounded by a picturesque landscape. This area is also an important nature reserve, which is home to snow leopards, wild Tibetan donkeys and a wide variety of birds.

Lamayuru - Chilling

The valley of Sham, which lies in the lower part of Ladakh, is known and famous for its abundance and beauty during the harvest season. This trek follows the old caravan route to Lamayuru, which branches off the road from Kargil to Leh at Phatu La. According to legend, there was only one lake in Lamayuru, which the scholar and sage Naropa made disappear with a handshake. Lamayuru Monastery, built in the 10th century, is one of the oldest in Ladakh and belongs to the Kagyudpa tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. On this trek you not only have a view of the many scenic wonders of Ladakh, but also visit some of its most famous monasteries and experience the traditional way of life of the locals.

Zanskar trekking

The old Buddhist kingdom of Zanskar is deep hidden in the western foothills of the great Himalayan massif. For most of the year the Passes to Zanskar are impassable due to the amount of snow; which made the frozen Zanskar River the only one access and transport option - of course on foot! There are small villages here, built on rugged peaks, green waving fields where buckwheat and peas are grown and ancient monasteries - just a few of the attractions to call on this route.

Homestay

Homestay Trekking

If you belong to the growing species of tourists who are allergic to 5-star hotels, we have a very special offer for you: living on a farm - but in the Himalayas!

During the day you will trek through the harsh snow leopard habitat while spending the nights with the locals. This gives you a feeling for the original way of life of the Ladakhis, which has been based on agriculture and animal husbandry for centuries and is completely adapted to their harsh natural environment.

Until now, these homestays have mainly been offered along the trekking routes of Hemis National Park and the Sham Valley, further options are being prepared at Lake Tsomoriri. And these will certainly not be the last homestays either! The popularity is constantly increasing - even if you really have to live with the simplest life! Or just because of that?

Chaddar trekking im winter

Chaddar means something like "frozen blanket", which in this case describes the frozen surface of the Zanskar river. The somewhat arduous path across the frozen river offers the only entry or exit to the Zanskar valley in winter, as the roads cannot be passed at the passes due to massive snowfall.

Of course you can expect a fantastic nature experience, but that is far from all: on this tour we work closely with the people of Zanskar - all guides and porters are locals, so to speak - and after a short time you will be deeply immersed in the culture of the locals. We are sure that you will have this experience in your heart for a long time to come: the evenings by the fire, the caves where you will sleep, the silence and the rushing river under your feet ... let's go!

A jeep will take you to Chilling, from where you walk into a gorge and follow the frozen river up to Pidmo. From Pidmo there are two days of snow hike to Padum.

In Padum you have to make a decision: Since the roads are impassable, you have to either take the helicopter back or walk the same route back until you find our jeep that will take you to Leh.

During the trek you will probably be able to observe many wild animals in the valley: snow leopards, wolves, foxes, lynxes, brown bears (if they are not hibernating), the Tibetan antelope and the Siberian ibex are at home here and feel really comfortable in the freezing temperatures. So don't forget your camera! We also recommend really warm socks and gloves!

Please contact us for any questions you have or for more information - we and the people from Zanskar look forward to hearing from you!
